PLAY Reading Series Submission Guidelines
HT’s Staged Reading Series creates opportunities for area playwrights to have their work read and for actors to keep their skills sharp with cold readings of original material. Comic and dramatic monologues and one act plays can be submitted. Works with excessive profanity are not likely to be performed. We are looking for work with well-drawn characters and interesting plot lines. The staged reading series will be held in the black box studio behind the HT mainstage.
Works featured in this reading series may well be chosen for future full production on the HT mainstage.
Playwright Submission Guidelines
All work must be original.
A cast size of 6 or less is preferred.
The playwright must attend the performance.
If your script is chosen, the playwright will agree to provide scripts for each character in their show plus a script for the stage direction reader.
We prefer new work. However, if you’ve had a previous production, please provide details.
Include a short bio about yourself as a playwright and tell us where you live (Hendersonville, Greenville, Asheville etc.)
Scripts must be submitted as a PDF and include a character list and short character description.
Ongoing submissions are welcome.
There is no submission fee.
HT is a volunteer organization. We will let you know the status of your work as quickly as possible.
Each presentation will be followed by a very short question and answer session. Kindness will be stressed! We will ask the audience:
- What did you like about the monologue or play?
- What did you find confusing?
The playwright is encouraged to use the feedback to continue writing and further refine their work.
Submit plays and questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
