The Hendersonville Theatre continues its staged reading series Saturday, July 9 at 4 p.m.

 We will be reading two short original one acts this month as well as a very short skit written by a local 20-yr old student interested in playwriting.

The Kiss by Rose-Mary Harrington

After the Museum closes, the couple featured in Rodin’s sculpture The Kiss confront cell phones, Mona Lisa and The Scream by Eduard Munch. 

Rose-Mary’s plays have been performed all over the USA. Productions run the gamut from Coop Theatre East in New York to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to Theatre Southwest, Houston to Women in Theatre, Los Angeles. Rose-Mary was the 2009 recipient of the Oregon Literary Fellowship in Drama. Rose-Mary was the winner of 2014 New American Playwrights Project at the Utah Shakespeare Festival for her play Six Seconds. Her play Detained was given a full equity production and three week run in New York in April 2018 by Up Theatre. Rose-Mary is a life member of the Dramatists Guild of America and an Associate of the Drama Board of Great Britain. 

Amanda by Patrica Vestal

A cat in human form encounters her human owner. 

Retired from a career in publishing and higher education, Patricia Vestal is focused on writing and teaching in Hendersonville, where she developed and conducted playwriting workshops (with collaborator Katie Winkler) through NC Writers Network, BRCC Bookfest and developed and taught writing courses through NCWN and at the former Opportunity House, Hendersonville. She earned an MA in Drama from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.. Her plays were produced off-off Broadway and on local NYC -TV and had staged readings in Orlando and Hendersonville. Her science fiction book,  Passageways was published last August.

Book Club by Amber Pridmore

A group of women form a book club to talk about….each other.

Amber Pridmore is 20 years old and an East Flat Rock resident. She wrote this skit while attending Blue Ridge Community College and will be transferring to UNCG in Fall 2022. 

A short discussion will follow each reading to provide feedback to the playwright about the script.

The reading will be held on the Hendersonville mainstage at 229 S. Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC. There is no charge to attend or to participate, however donations are welcome and will be used to support HT.
