About the Show

“The Inspector General” is a satirical play by Russian author Nikolai Gogol, first performed in 1836. Set in a small provincial town, the narrative revolves around the mayor, Anton Antonovich, who receives alarming news that an incognito inspector from the capital is visiting to assess the region. In a frenzied attempt to avoid exposure of corruption and incompetence, the local officials scramble to cover up their misdeeds and present a façade of respectability.

The plot intensifies with the arrival of Khlestakov, a bumbling individual mistaken for the inspector. As the townspeople attempt to curry favor with him, they unwittingly expose their own corruption and absurdities.
