Hendersonville Theatre is committed to the creation of new works for the stage. We host a new works reading series throughout the year, as well as seek out and commission original work for our main productions and One Act Festival. Hendersonville Theatre actively contributed to the development of new plays and musicals.
NEW WORKS SERIES: PAGE TO STAGE
In 2021, this commitment was strengthened with the launch of our public play readings, known as the New Works Series: Page to Stage. Our New Works Series offers area playwrights the opportunity to have their working scripts read by actors for public feedback. From this series, selected works are chosen for workshops and future full production on our main stage.

NEXT UP: There Is No Escape from the Truth: An Escape Room Play by David Schoenfeld
Synopsis: At a corporate retreat inside a high-tech escape room, five employees of Willis Industries and a mysterious outsider are forced to confront a series of increasingly personal puzzles that expose their professional misconduct and moral failings. As each confession unlocks the next clue, it becomes clear the game is not about escape—but accountability. Will all be revealed to be complicit, proving there is truly no escape from the truth?
About David Schoenfeld: David Schoenfeld is a playwright and producer whose “second act” in life has been devoted to storytelling for the stage. After a thoroughly satisfying medical career as a dermatologist and educator at Emory University, he founded Show & Tell Productions to develop works that explore humor, humanity, and connection. His plays range from heartfelt comedies to political satire, to concept-driven ensemble pieces. With a background rooted in science and empathy, he tries to bring a unique perspective to character and dialogue, creating works that balance wit, insight, and emotional authenticity. He is hoping to spend his retirement years travelling around the country, watching his plays produced by community and regional theatres.
Please join us for this free event on Saturday, May 30th at 3:00PM.
